What you do today affects you for the rest of your life, especially where your health is concerned.

         " Health is a combination of physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Changes to any one of these areas affects all the other areas of health. Being healthy means keeping these areas in balance. Wellness is a state of well-being, or balanced health."  health.glencoe.com


In Health class, we are developing behaviors that promote lifelong health. The students are learning to recognize and practice health enhancing lifestyles,. They are using core information to analyze and evaluate health and safety issues, and implementing information and resources in order to become healthy, responsible citizens. Communication skills and peaceful resolution of conflicts, by appreciating and respecting others are being strengthened. Students are learning decision making skills, goal setting and refusal skills, in order to implement and sustain a healthy life.

 

 The four content areas are:

 

  • 1.      Healthy and Active Life- healthy eating patterns and a physically active life.
  • 2.      Injury and Disease Prevention- avoid risk-taking activities that cause injury and disease; basic first- aid and safety techniques.
  • 3.      Human Growth and Development- age appropriate physical and mental / emotional and social health.
  • 4.      Substance Abuse Prevention- maintaining a tobacco, alcohol and other nonmedicial drug-free life.
