Absentee PolicyRegular School AttendanceRegular school attendance is necessary for school success. Excessive absence from class means that your child is missing important school activities and learning. When your child is absent, s/he misses more than the day's lessons. Class discussions can be just as valuable. Be sure to phone the school office about your child's absence at 457-0222. If you have not phoned the school office, please send in a written note, otherwise, the absence is unexcused. This is consistent with Guilford Public Schools Board policy. Please show your child how important school attendance is. Of course, if your child is ill, s/he should stay home, but missing school regularly can become a chronic problem. It is always advisable to speak to your child's teacher about any work or assignments that your child missed when absent. There are some examples of appropriate reasons for students to be absent from school. They include:
Tardies and Early DismissalsThe Guilford Public Schools Board policy indicates that regular, punctual attendance is an integral part of academic achievement and the teaching-learning experience. Valuable classroom instructional time is missed or interrupted with a tardy arrival or early dismissal. Regular on time attendance develops patterns of behavior that are essential to professional and personal success as our children mature. Students need to be in class at 8:06 a.m. or they will be considered tardy. Late arrivals will be excused per discussion with the principal. Students should remain in attendance at school for the full day. We ask that you make every effort to schedule doctor's appointments and any other activities after 2:42 pm. Thank you for your cooperation.
