E.C. Adams General Information

Dr. Elisabeth C. Adams Middle School (Grades 7 and 8) offers programs tailored to the needs of the middle-school aged student. Using the "team" concept, students receive daily classes in five major areas: English, reading, math, reading, science and social studies. In addition, instruction is offered in world languages (French, Spanish), art, music, computer education, health, tech education, classroom guidance and physical education. Guilford Middle School students have scored above the state average on the Grade 8 Mastery Tests.

A full range of after-school activities is available at Adams. Student Council, Yearbook, Newspaper, Mock Trial and Literary Magazine are popular choices, as well as, service groups such as Peer Helpers and National Junior Honor Society. Cultural arts assemblies by visiting artists and lecturers broaden student experiences. Sports include soccer, field hockey, basketball, baseball, wrestling and softball. Spirit days, dances and school music concerts are held throughout the year. Adams has an active Parent/Teacher Organizations (PTO) made up of parents, staff and members of the community, who participate in the formation of plans and priorities for the improvement of Adams and its programs. The PTO helps to provide cultural and social events for students and parents, as well as providing time and support to teachers and students

Guilford Public Schools utilizes a district-wide listserv of parents' e-mail addresses to facilitate more effective communication. Participants will receive information about school closings, emergency information, curriculum updates, upcoming referendums and elections, and other timely information. If you wish to participate in the listserv and did not sign up at the beginning of the school year, please e-mail Lorri Hahn at
hahnl@guilford.k12.ct.us with the names of your children currently in the Guilford Public schools, their schools and grades.

Special Education is provided to all students in Guilford who are identified as having need. In addition, the services of school psychologists, social workers and speech and language clinicians are available. There is an emphasis in Guilford's schools on "mainstreaming," or the inclusion of special education students in as much of the regular portion of the school program as is educationally appropriate.
