“Mrs. McLaughlin’s Webpage” is a great place to frequently visit!

Let me help you “navigate” the webpage:

· This homepage offers a quick snapshot of 5th grade science!  Below, you can read about the our 5th grade science units we study.

· Click on “Meet Mrs. Mac” to learn more about me!

· “Contact Me” has my school phone number and e-mail address.

· The “Calendar and Assignment” section is extremely important! Here you will find written SCIENCE homework posted and updates about upcoming events/field trips. I hope to add some helpful science papers and study guides (just in case you happen to misplace yours)!

· “Science Scoop” will fill you in on what is going on in the classroom! I hope to upload a Student Display Case to showcase some student work and pictures!

· “Helpful Links” is a place to find websites, review resources, extensions, and even games that pertain to science! Have fun!

Text Box: What will I learn in 5th grade science?

What a fantastic question! There are three units we study in fifth grade science: Earth, Moon and Sun, Sound, and Color and Light.

We begin the year learning about sound. This unit ends with a bang in “Battle of the Bands” where you create a homemade instrument based on what you learned in class, form a band with friends, and play a tune for your classmates! Then we move onto our Earth, Moon and Sun. We will study our planet, Earth and its satellite, the moon and our lucky star, the sun! We learn why we have seasons on Earth and why life exists here and no where else (well at least that we know of!). We end our year with color and light. We learn about the visible light spectrum. Have you ever heard of ROY G BIV? If not, you will!

I hope you are excited for science this year!
