Mrs. Higgins Language Arts Team 7-3
Welcome everybody! I have prepared an outline for you with some general policies for my classes. You will see a course outline of what your child will be learning and participating in. I look forward to a successful and productive year with your child.
Homework: Generally, there is homework assigned every night. Homework is always written on my dry erase board in the right hand corner of my room. When we are reading a novel in class, students will have homework every night. Students were provided with an assignment notebook from Adams on the first day of school. I remind them in every class period to take it out and write their homework in it. If your child is absent or has not written the homework down in class, homework can be obtained from the Guilford Public Schools site: www.guilford.k12.ct.us. Select Schools-Adams-Team7-3-Mrs. Higgins. Please keep in mind that assignments listed on the webpage are subject to change and the website may not always reflect daily changes. I will check homework every day for completion. If a homework assignment is not completed, the grade will be a zero until it is completed for partial-credit. I always encourage students to complete it and show it to me for some credit. You may monitor your child's homework grades through PowerSchool as they are uploaded every Friday afternoon. Grading Policies: The 7th grade Language Arts Department has determined the following percentages in relation to English and Reading grades. All seventh grade teachers follow the same percentages when computing quarter grades. READING: Comprehension 50%, Quizzes 15%, Tests 15%, Homework 10%, Projects 10% ENGLISH: Writing 50%, Quizzes 15%, Tests 25%, Homework 10%
Team Information:
Our team realizes that coordinating quizzes and tests is helpful to students. Therefore, we discuss this in our team meetings and post quiz and test dates on a team calendar in our hallway for all students to see. This allows students to plan accordingly. It is our intention to make their transition as smooth and stress free as possible.
Extra Help:
I am available for extra help. Students are welcome to come in and I will be happy to assist them with homework, studying, and reading/writing strategies. If you have any concerns that you would like to share with me, you can call me at Adams. (Call 453-2755 and leave a message on the Team 7-3 voicemail box) I will return your call as soon as possible.
