Welcome to Ms. Grappi's Web Page!
As with any sport or musical instrument, reading must be practiced daily.
The benefits include improved vocabulary, comprehension, and writing ability.

Unfortunately, some students have been coming to class without the materials listed below. Several students also have not been bringing their assignment notebooks, and therefore, not completing homework. If your child has lost the assignment notebook which was given to him or her, I would advise getting a replacement. It is a useful tool to help students keep track of assignments, due dates, upcoming tests, quizzes, etc.

I have asked students to come prepared to class every day with their assignment notebook, a blue or black pen, pencil, highlighter, a red pen, a folder with pockets, and for note taking either a section in a loose leaf notebook or trapper keeper or a separate notebook. I saw that many students had the necessary materials, but unfortunately, some students are leaving them in their locker. Being prepared for class is very important this year as we try to teach students strategies that will help them be successful students this year and in the future. Unfortunately, several students have been coming to class without their materials and without completed homework.

ALL CLASSES:     All homework assignments are posted daily on the board. It is essential that students keep up with their daily homework assignments.

I have requested that students procure the following supplies: a homework folder, a notebook or 2 sections in a loose leaf binder for notes, a blue or black pen as well as a red pen and a highlighter. If purchasing these materials presents a problem, please contact me, and I will try to help. Students are expected to bring these materials to class daily.

Students are expected to complete all homework assignments neatly, on time, and to the best of their ability.

Important Book Club Information for all of my classes :

Daily homework will always include reading for at least 20 minutes, filling in the reading log and having it signed by a parent or guardian. Of course, I realize that some nights are so busy with activities, sports, and other homework; on those occasions, students can choose to read more on the weekend or other nights to keep up with the novel. In addition, students will be choosing vocabulary words they don't know from their novels, looking for important quotes, and writing at least 10 good open ended questions for discussion. Students have been given written explanations of how to do these assignments . They should work on these assignments as they read the book and not wait until the day before they are due to start them.

ALL BOOK CLUB WORK MUST BE TYPED!!!

.

Period 8: We have been reading some nonfiction about the Holocaust in preparation for our guest speaker, a Holocaust survivor. Last week, we saw a documentary and took notes. There will be a test on the documentary information, notes and handouts on Thursday 3/29.

**Please note that daily homework assignments can change depending on
what occurs during the various class periods.  Homework assignments are
written daily on the board and will reflect any immediate changes. Students
are responsible for writing their assignments in their daily planner which was
given to them on the first day of school.
