Career Speaker Series
The Guidance Department will be hosting a six-week Career Speaker Series beginnig Friday, March 23rd at 8:30 AM. To participate, you will need to obtain a blue Career Speaker Series pass from your school counselor and have it signed off by your period 2 teacher. You will be responsible for any work missed. Additionally, we request that this be a career area of interest. Passes will be collected at the door. If you do not have a pass, you will not be allowed to attend.

Please Note: If any sophomore or junior is not in a given class period but wishes to attend a career speaker session, he or she will be required to pick up a blue college rep. pass from their school counselor and have their teacher sign off indicating it’s okay to miss that class period. Seniors who are in other relevant sections of a course (such as Anatomy & Physiology or Calculus/AP Stat.) and wish to attend are also welcome but will need a pass. All students should report to assigned room numbers unless instructed differently.

AP Exams
The 2012 AP Bulletin and registration materials have been distributed to AP students on 1/11/12 & 1/12/12.
Any AP students that may have been absent and did not receive materials are to stop by the Guidance
Department. The 2012 AP College Board Exam fee is $87.00 per exam. Registration form and fee (payable to
GHS) need to be returned to the Guidance Department by Friday, February 17, 2012. For additional information,
including the 2012 AP exam schedule, please refer to the Bulletin or www.collegeboard.com.

Junior Parent Night - Date Changed!

Junior Parent Night is an opportunity for students and parents to be introduced to the post high school planning
process. Information will be presented on 20 and 4 year Colleges and Universities, Technical / Vocational Schools,
Full Time Employment, Post Graduate High School Year, Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast
Guard, and Volunteer Opportunities: Peace Corps, Ameri-Corps. Students and parents will meet with school
counselors to review the college search process. Topics will include SAT I and SAT II, college visits, resource
tools, and components to consider when searching for the right college match.
Senior Night

Senior Night with Students and Parents is an important evening for both seniors and their parents as we discuss
further post-high school options, using Naviance, the process of filling out applications, college visits, standardized
tests and narrowing down your choices.
College Fair at Guilford High School
Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm
This is Guilford's 12th Annual College Fair. Over 130 Colleges will be represented. Parents and students in all
grades are encouraged to attend.
PSAT Exams
Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 8:00am at GHS
The PSAT exams will be administered here at GHS. The PSAT prepares students to take the SAT in Junior and
Senior years. Test scores will be distributed to students in their English classes in December, but more importantly,
they receive a detailed score report so that they can use the information from the PSAT to prepare for the SAT.
Registration forms have been mailed home to Juniors and Sophomores and are due to the Guidance Office by
October 7th. Students are required to bring (3) #2 pencils and a calculator for the exam.
Financial Aid Night
Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in the Auditorium
An opportunity to have all your questions answered about filling out the Federal Government's Financial Aid Form
(FAFSA) and college's financial aid forms. Also information on the best way to prepare for College.
