Adams Middle School Sports WebsiteGeneral Requirements to Participate in the Athletic Program Any student will be allowed to participate in the athletic program provided he/she meets the academic eligibility requirements as stated in the Athletic Handbook, submits a completed parental permission form and submits evidence of a yearly physical examination. All forms are available at Adams Middle School, Guilford High School or online at: http://www.guilford.k12.ct.us/~ghs/athletics/. It is highly recommended that appointments for physical exams be made with your physician well in advance of the start of the athletic season. We suggest that physicals be completed by the following dates for both Adams and Guilford high school athletes; Fall Sports by August 1st, Winter Sports by November 1st, and Spring Sports by March 1st. Parental Permission: Before being allowed to tryout for any team, each candidate must submit to the coach a completed Athletic Emergency/Permission Form. Physical Examination: Upon selection to a team the student must have a current physical examination form (Sports Participation Health Record) filed with the school nurse before the first competition in order to continue participation. A physical exam is considered current if it has occurred within 365 days of the first competition. Sports offered by Season The fall season begins shortly after school starts in August and continues until late October or early November. Girls can choose field hockey, cross-country, soccer or volleyball. Boys can play soccer or run cross-country. The winter season starts in early December and ends in late February. Boys can choose to participate in basketball or wrestling, while the girls can play basketball. In addition, girls can choose to be cheerleaders during the winter season. The spring season will start in late March and continue until early June. Baseball is available to boys and softball for girls. There is also an intramural track program for boys and girls. Game/Practice Information Teams generally practice four or five days each week and last about one and half hours. Practices occur immediately after school in the fall and spring. Winter sports may have to practice at other times depending on gym availability. Games will start at about 3:30 and last approximately two hours. Most teams will play 8-12 games during their season.
