Health Education

In Health class, we are developing behaviors that promote lifelong health. The students are learning to recognize and practice health enhancing lifestyles. The content of class is based on the 5 areas of wellness: Physical, Social, Emotional, Intellectual, and Spiritual.

 


Health Education 5th Grade

As 5th graders we will be meeting once every 6 day rotation for half the year.

 

Possible Topics for 5th Grade Health Education

  • Self Esteem
  • Self Concept
  • Character Education (values)
  • Nutrition
  • Importance of exercise
  • Hygiene
  • Human Growth and Development (In the spring, parents will be informed that their student will be attending a session pertaining to this topic with the nurse or other speakers.)

 

Health Education 6th Grade

As 6th graders we will be meeting twice a rotation for the full year.

 

Possible Topics for 6th Grade Health Education

  • 5 Areas of Wellness
  • Friendship
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Effective Communication Techniques
  • Stress and Stress Management
  • Depression/Sadness
  • Eating Disorders (with a review of nutrition)
  • Decision Making
  • Refusal Skills
  • ATOD (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs)
  • Safety and Basic First Aid
  • HIV/AIDS

 

Grading Policy

Students will recieve 3 grades in Health class - one grade is their marking period grade, the other 2 grades are for both conduct and effort.  All grades in Health are based on the "S" scale.

  • O  = Outstanding (100)
  • S+= Great (90-99)
  • S  = Good (80-89)
  • S- = Weak (70-79)
  • U  = Unacceptable (69 and under)
