Abraham Baldwin Middle School Library Media Center

Library Policies

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Study Halls:
Each study hall may send two students at a time to the library media center.  Passes are required at all times and the students must sign in and out so the librarians have a record of students in the media center at all times.  This time can be used for the research of long-term project assignments or for choosing books of individual interest to the student.  Independent reading is always encouraged.

Media Center Computers:
The library media center has many computers available for student and teacher use. Teachers are encouraged to sign up to bring classes to the media center to work on the computers. Students interested in using the Internet must come with a specific web address (URL) because they are not permitted to search on the Internet with a search engine (such as Google, Ask Jeeves, or Yahooligans).

Collection: The Baldwin Media Center collection is maintained by the Library Media Specialist with special consideration for curriculum content, readability and age appropriateness. If anyone has a question about the collection or challenges the fact that an item is in the collection, please contact the Library Media Specialist. There are procedures in place for documenting and investigating challenges.

Copies:
Students are not permitted to make machine copies of any library or classroom material for personal use.  Copies may be made by students who are accompanied by their classroom teacher or program paraprofessional.

Food:
There is no eating or drinking by students permitted in the library media center.

We expect that students' behavior will be respectful and courteous to library staff and parent volunteers at all times. We also expect that students will exercise respect for library materials and computers.
