Introduction Weeks 1 and 2
Monday: No School Tuesday: Course Introductions and distribution of textbooks. Students will be introduced to Accountable Talk procedures as a way of conducting in-class discussions. Wednesday: Students will report out their understanding of the article entitled Remediation Nation. A powerpoint presentation entitled DATE NIGHT will be used to introduce the concepts of choice, scarcity, trade off, and opportunity costs. Homework: Read section 1 in textbook pgs. 3-7 and section 2 pgs. 8-12. Complete the BIG IDEA worksheet for each section. Thursday: Students will report out their understanding of the article entitled Remediation Nation. A powerpoint presentation entitled DATE NIGHT will be used to introduce the concepts of choice, scarcity, trade off, and opportunity costs. Students will also be introduced to the concepts of possibility curves. Homework: Read section 3 pages 13-18. Complete possibility curves using data presented in class. Friday: Review student work. Create electronic accounts for on-line course work. Week 2 Monday: Students will create personal accounts that will allow them access to on-line assessments as well as an on-line copy of their textbook. Students will also be presented a series of data points for them to determine how to maximize their resources in a production simulation involving breakfast. A discussion regarding possibility frontier curves will follow. Tuesday: Students will complete an online assessment measuring their understanding of the concepts that were presented in chapter 1.
