Introductory Weeks 1 and 2

Monday: Introduction of a new unit - Globalization.  Topics covered include

     the skills needed to be successful in the 21st Century, cartoon analysis of   

     outscourcing, and views by Friedman as written in the World is Flat.

Tuesday: Whole Class Social Studies World Test Activity as presented by the

     2MM Organization.  Homework: Complete an individual version of the   

     Third World Challenge Exam for History.  Due on Friday.

Wednesday: No Class

Thursday:  A Nation at Risk - Federal Study assessing the nation's schools

     released during 1983.  Teacher led discussion.   FYI - A Nation

     Accountable is a 25 year follow-up study to the Nation at Risk study.

Friday:  Introduction and Video Presentation of 2 Million Minutes.  A comparison of American Schools to India and China's public education systems.

Week 2

 

Monday: Collect Papers.  Review platforms of two presidential candidates.  Exercise in subjective vs. objective statements.  Complete for homework.

Tuesday:  Review homework from Monday.  Introduce Terrorism as next focus of the course.  Students will read the 9/11 Commission Report Executive Summary.  Pages 1-20 are due for Thursday.  Pages 21-35 are due for Friday.

Wednesday: No Class

Thursday: 9/11 Remembrance Day.

Friday:  Continue discussion of 9/11 Report.  In class assement on understanding of the report's findings.
