The Guilford High School Building Committee

On June 14, 2011, the Town of Guilford approved a referendum to build a new Guilford High School on the site of the existing school. Also in June 2011, the Board of Selectmen appointed nine Guilford residents and two alternates to serve on the Guilford High School Building Committee (GHSBC) to oversee all aspects of the design and construction of the new high school. The GHSBC believes it is important that the public provide comment during the design and construction phases of the high school.

If you have a question we request that you first review the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) above. You may find the answer within this document.

The Committee regrets that it is not possible to answer every question posed, but please know that committee members are working diligently and appreciate your shared enthusiasm for the new GHS.

The GHSBC will use our best efforts to keep the community informed via this website, the FAQs, press releases, and public meetings.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN AS OF MARCH 14, 2012 - 60% COMPLETE

On March 14, 2012, Tai Soo Kim Partners presented a Schematic Design for the new high school to a joint meeting of the Guilford Board of Education and the GHSBC. This Schematic Design is approximately 60% complete.

The architects continue to incorporate input from GHSBC subcommittees, GHS departments, GPS administration, the Board of Education, residents, and the GHSBC. The next version of the Schematic Design is anticpated in early April.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN - JANUARY 31, 2012

On Tuesday, January 31st, the Guilford High School Building Committee voted to accept a design concept, Plan A-3, from Architects Tai Soo Kim Partners to use in their development of a full Schematic Design for the new high school. (more)

95% Schematic Design - April 3, 2012

On April 3, 2012, Tai Soo Kim Partners presented a 95% Schematic Design of the new high school.  Included in this presentation is the overall layout and design of the building including program and administrative spaces, landscape design concepts, sustainability concepts, and discussion about MEP and energy modeling.

This presentation reflects updates made to several aspects of the Schematic Design including adding square footage to Indoor Athletics and Performing Arts.

The Learning Studio Research Project

Collaborating with the Herman Miller, Inc., Guilford Public Schools are researching the impact of the classroom space on teaching and learning by redesigning the physical space of a typical math classroom at Guilford High School (including lighting, paint color, and furniture) to create a dynamic and stimulating setting where students and faculty can effectively engage in a wide array of activities.
