Wellness PolicyThe Board of Education adopted a Wellness Policy and Regulations in August 2006. August 2008 Dear Parents: Welcome to what we hope will prove to be an exciting and healthy new school
year at Guilford Public Schools. About two years ago, recognizing that schools
play a critical role in promoting student health, preventing childhood obesity
which is on the rise, and combating problems associated with poor nutrition and
physical inactivity, the Federal Government passed a law (P.L. 108-265), requiring
that all school districts who participate in the school lunch program establish
a local school wellness policy by the school year 2006. It was further required
that the policy contain information on: (a) Nutrition education and promotion;
(b) Physical activity and physical education; (c) Nutrition standards for food
at school; (d) Other school-based wellness activities; (e) Marketing and promotion;
and (f) Measurement and evaluation. (more...) |
