Professional Development

Fitting the Pieces Together

Life-long learning is an essential characteristic found among effective educators and something that should be modeled for our students.  Professional development can no longer be viewed as an event that occurs on a particular day of the school year; rather, it must become part of the daily work life of educators, to test out new ideas, assess their effects, adjust their approaches, and assess again in an effort to reach and make learning meaningful for all students.

Professional Learning Communities are also a form of imbedded professional development and are guided by a clear vision of helping all students learn and providing equity among classrooms. Members regularly identify student learning needs, collaboratively plan, monitor results, and provide interventions that ensure students receive appropriate support for new learning to occur.  Feedback about how professional development is implemented within the building is collected and is used in planning on-going building level professional learning opportunities.  As we strive for academic rigor in a thinking curriculum, we must continually refine our practice to meet the needs of all students.
