Health Advisory CommitteeThe Health Advisory Committee was formed in 2004 to evaluate the school nutrition environment and make recommendations for changes. The committee includes teachers, health care professionals, administrators, parents and Board of Education members. Currently, the committee is developing a federally mandated Wellness Policy to be implemented in the Guilford Public Schools in the fall of 2006. The Connecticut State Senate and House of Representatives have developed this act concerning healthy food and beverages in schools. The Connecticut State Department of Education partnered with the University of Connecticut in collaboration with the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders, and the State Department of Health to develop standards through a 2003-2005 USDA Team Nutrition grant. The State Department of Education encourages schools to use these standards to determine what snacks are available at school. |
