Tools for Schools

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools Program to reduce exposures to indoor environmental contaminants in schools through the voluntary adoption of sound indoor air quality management practices. Guilford Public Schools participates in the IAQ Tools for Schools Program.

The IAQ Tools for Schools Program is a comprehensive resource to help schools maintain a healthy environment in school buildings by identifying, correcting, and preventing IAQ problems. Poor indoor air quality can impact the comfort and health of students and staff, which, in turn, can affect concentration, attendance, and student performance. In addition, if schools fail to resopnd promptly to poor IAQ, students and staff are at an increased risk of short-term health problems such as fatigue and nausea, as well as long-term problems like asthma. Green Cleaning Program

The State of Connecticut is requiring that each local and regional board of education implement a green cleaning program (CT Public Act 09-81) for all school buildings and facilities in its district.

The Guilford Public Schools is committed to the implementation of this law by providing the staff and, upon request, the parents and guardians of each child enrolled in each school with a written statement of the school district's green cleaning program as well as making it available on our website.
