| All of Guilford's schools have worked hard this past year to increase awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. The Adams Environmental Club raised trout (Trout in the Classroom, May 7, Guilford Courier) , the GHS Environmental Club ("The Compass", December 2008, page 2) continues to raise community awareness of key issues, and all schools celebrated Earth Day with tree plantings and student projects focused on the environment.
At top right, A.W. Cox student Sam Jelley plants a tree during the school's Earth Day Celebration.
At bottom right, Calvin Leete Kindergartner Olivia Ste. Marie created an art project using recycled goods to culminate their study of the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

| Jones Writers' Wall Funded by GFFE |
Thanks to a grant from the Guilford Fund for Education, all students at Melissa Jones School are now published authors. Writings from every grade have been displayed during the school year on a bulletin board - The Writers' Wall - in the Melissa Jones main hallway. Submissions are approved by teachers and the Writers' Wall Review Board made up of nine fourth grade students. The Board meets weekly to review writings which are then prepared for display by parent volunteers. Fourth Grade teacher Debra Houle guides the student reviewers as they meet each week. The GFFE provided the funding to print a booklet of all of the students' writings which will be sent home to every Jones' family at the end of the school year.
